Will Snapchat users like it?
Snapchat is one of the growing social media platforms in the world. Here in the UAE, there’s also a huge adoption not just by teenagers but with adults as well. The first version of Spectacles was mostly a hit with die hard users of the platform, though it didn’t really take off as the makers have hoped.
Enter the Spectacles 2, a refining of the sunglasses that easily lets you take short videos (or Snaps) so you can share then immediately to Snapchat. Spectacles 2 boasts a new slimmer and water resistant design and now lets you take still images as well.
This edition (named Nico) we got for testing is part of the new Spectacles 2 design that features darker shades, which looks more like a natural sunglass. The lens is polarized too, which is a fitting option on especially here in the UAE where there’s sun all-year round.
A group of rotating lights will let you (and everyone who can see it) that you’re recording. A small button on the side of the Spectacles will initiate a 10-second recording. Pressing them continuously would result in longer videos. If you want to take a photo, simply press and hold down on the same button.
If your smartphone and Spectacles are already paired, the images and videos you’ve taken will automatically transfer where you can instantly post it on your Stories. The content at that you’ve transferred can be placed in different collections and can even include timestamps and location data. This is useful for editing snaps since applying geofilters and the like will follow the date, time and location that’s saved in that particular image or video.
The videos captured on the Spectacles 2 are crisp and detailed and even the accompanying sound was crystal clear. Images looked great as well, similar to what you can take on a mid-range smartphone.
Spectacles 2 should allow you to record around 70 snaps before the battery gets low. The package includes a USB cable for charging, though it doesn’t include an AC adapter.
The Spectacles 2 does feature notable improvements over the first version and this particular design is something that current Snapchat users will enjoy wearing. It’s a way to immerse yourself more into the social media world of Snapchat if you’re okay with the 879.99 AED price tag.
